National Award Winning Artist Ted
VanCleave set
to Exhibit New architectural
Photographic series
LA’s trendy ChopChop selected for exhibit to open
Nov. 5
Los Angeles, CA – National
award winning artist Ted VanCleave will open a new eight week solo
exhibit on November 5, 2006 of his latest abstract
architectural photographs at LA’s premiere salon/gallery, ChopChop
on La Brea Blvd. Open through January 5 2007,
VanCleave’s exhibit, a special selection of sixteen of his new
photographic images titled “Structure: The Los Angeles Series“,
captures Los Angeles in a bold and colorful new way that extends
beyond representation to become brilliant, almost surreal
abstraction. These highly stylized photographs offer an exciting new
approach to fine art photography juxtaposing vibrant color and the
geometry of LA’s architectural landscape.
“I created this new series to
present architecture, which surrounds all of us, from a unique
perspective, focusing on the details and form of structures,” states
VanCleave. “Many buildings that may seem a bit mundane have
details that are imaginative and visually stunning. While this new
series of images is about Los Angeles, every city offers hidden gems
of architectural significance.”
Recognized for its unwavering
support of accomplished local artists and photographers, ChopChop
provides an excellent venue in which to exhibit VanCleave’s work.
Owner, Darin Birchler, created the space specifically to fulfill his
concept of integrating an art gallery and hair salon and even
created mobile workstations that allow him to reconfigure the space
and optimize the display of the art. ChopChop is unique in Los
Angeles as a hybrid salon/gallery.
“I’ve been a fan of Ted’s work for
quite some time,” says ChopChop owner Darin Birchler, “and it
thrills me to be able to hang his new works in the salon where our
visitors and clients will be able to enjoy and study how he has so
masterfully captured the city’s unique style of modern and
postmodern industrial architecture. The vision of my hair salon to
provide clients and friends with an artistically stimulating
experience is fully realized by Ted’s work. They will love it.”
Apprentice to Suiki Lohr of
Architects and Heroes in San Francisco, Darin Birchler has been an
accomplished hair stylist for more than 18 years and operates
ChopChop with 6 other stylists and colorists. ChopChop is located at
830 North La Brea Blvd. In Los Angeles. Visit (http://www.chopchopsalon.com)
